You’ve been accepted Early Decision! What next?

Congratulations again on your college acceptance!!

You are almost finished with the college application process. However there are several important steps you need to complete.

  1. Update SCOIR or Naviance or whatever other platform your high school utilizes.

    • This will inform your high school college counselor of your happy news and let them know which college will receive your final transcript.

    • It will also provide your in-school counseling team useful data points that they can refer to for underclassmen when they apply to college.

  2. Send in your enrollment deposit asap! There is usually a tight deadline for Early Decision applicants to complete this step, so do not wait.

  3. Submit a housing deposit asap to secure a spot in your first choice dorm building.

  4. Follow up with orientation info to get your first choice of orientation dates.

  5. Check your new college email regularly for updates regarding enrollment, class scheduling, residential housing, orientation, etc.

  6. Withdraw your remaining applications from every other college to which you applied! This is an essential part of the contract that you signed when you chose to apply Early Decision. For the remaining colleges, some will have an option on their individual application portals to withdraw. If not (or if you can’t figure out how to do this on their portal), you can send an email to the college’s admissions office/regional recruiter notifying them of your intention to withdraw.

Example email to admissions to withdraw your application.

Dear [College Name + Admissions Committee OR Recruiter’s Name],

Thank you for the time and consideration you have given to my application for admission to [College Name]

Recently, I received an Early Decision acceptance to another institution.

Therefore, I’m now withdrawing the application that I previously submitted to [College Name].

Appreciatively,

Your Full Name

Your High School (City, State)
